The death by audio apocalypse was the first big muff I ever clicked with. the one that showed me how versatile it could be, it is a platform that can be twisted, modded, and tweaked many ways.
This is my own take on the apocalypse- it shares the same idea in that it has 4 unique modes, but it does not share any of the sounds the apocalypse has.
the left center knob is a 4 position knob that selects between 4 unique signal paths
- standard 4 transistor
- rat distortion gain stage (yes, a beautiful mashup between muff and rat saturation)
- op amp boost
- harmonic mangler (just pure signal mangling)
Each of these modes has a completely UNIQUE tone, saturation flavor, frequency and dynamic response. It is really like having 4 fuzzes in one box!
this circuit also includes a 3 way clipping- stock, LED, and none. What the clipping mod does it lets signal above a certain threshold bypass the gain stage- LEDs need a lot of signal to active so almost all frequencies and signal is amplified so this mode is a lot gainier and loud. No clipping diode lets no signal escape- and can drive the circuit into some strange interactions.
The DBA muff has an amazing modified tone stack that has one, if not the best tone sweep of any muff.
