About the Circuit:

Originally introduced in the mid-1960s, the Dallas Rangemaster became legendary for its ability to push British tube amps into uncharted saturation — particularly Vox and Laney circuits. Its magic lies in its simple single-transistor design (often germanium) that boosts upper mids and treble to cut through dense mixes and wake up dark amplifiers.

Perhaps the most iconic use of the Rangemaster was by Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. With his Laney amps and a Rangemaster out front, Iommi carved out the blueprint of heavy metal guitar tone — razor-sharp, mid-heavy sustain that still feels raw and explosive.
