estonian shore.

the grey tones of the sky overlook a calm shoreline, a place of solace for those who seek solitude.

this here, is a silicon based fuzz unit. 4 transistors yet nothing like what comes to mind, when you think of those attributes (4 transistor generally = big muff, not the case here).

this is a very rare and unique silicon adaption of the tone bender.

rumor has it that sola sound released a very small number of silicon mk3 tone benders.

what category of effect does this fit into?

vintage fuzz. full of unique character and tending to sound different unit to unit.

fuzz is more textured, and non-linear than other types of drive. out of all the drive categories, fuzz has the most obvious differences from circuit to circuit. a very wide range of textures and feels here.

generally good for emphasizing lead melodies in a song, and providing a layer/background of grain. it is like adding a blanket of unique timbre.

how would I describe the feel and texture?

this circuit has quite a lot of gain available. This circuit also really SHINES in its lower gain range sounds, and cleans up extremely well with the guitars volume knob. It is one of those circuits that can do clean boost to high gain easily.

This pedal feels inherently bright- with a presence happening in the highs. The tone control sort of shifts the highs into the background when CCW, and CW makes it chime and cut.

the 3 toggle modes give varying ranges of low end response, which also affects the total gain shaping.

Middle toggle position- bright, lower gain. Like fuzz overdrive, sort of a top boost.

Left toggle position- adds a bit more fullness. Still feels very bright and top end forward, but with a bit more low mid. Like an aggressive fuzz that roars like a distortion.

Right Toggle- the most massive, smooth, boomy, and creamiest fuzz mode. Best for thick walls of sound.

I would describe the texture as balanced between modern and vintage sounding, and aggressive and massive, retaining clarity and pronunciation.

It is one of those fuzz pedals that has more of a defined, biting roar- the same way I would describe an MK1 tonebender. When you let chords ring out, it just sound indescribably perfect.

It does not have a splatty, fizzy, velcro sound.

It plays like a distortion in the hand, and sort of sounds like one, but has the background textures of a fuzz.

what kind of player would like this stompbox?

If you want a drive that is more complex than a distortion- but with tighter note clarity than a fuzz.

If you like the big muff but do not enjoy how it gets lost in a mix, and tend to run it with an overdrive- this is a good pedal for you. It sort of feels like a crossover between a big muff and an overdrive.

Anyone who appreciates the nod to vintage construction.
