If you are interested in these- do not sleep. This circuit is extremely complex and with the new tariffs, I must resort to hand soldering all the SMD components- it is extremely time consuming, and as a result, the price must go up once the last 2 pre built boards are sold.
I’ve always been an FZ2 fanatic, and over time, I’ve designed nearly a dozen circuits orbiting this cult classic—each one a twist on the original, a new refraction of that iconic fuzz. But this one… this one is the apex. The Bass FZ2, born from a long-distance engineering collaboration with Santiago from Guatemala, is sonic ritual, a gateway into strange, shimmering frequencies and tectonic walls of fuzzed-out chaos.
While it carries the name “Bass FZ2,” don’t be misled, this pedal is an eccentric companion to any instrument. Guitarists, bassists, sonic explorers.
At its heart lies the core tone of the original FZ2, but I’ve expanded it into an uncharted territory of sonic mayhem. The “Come My Fuzznatics” mods breathe extra life into the circuit, and the real twist? The addition of a blendable Green Ringer stage, cascading into the Super Fuzz-style octave of the FZ2. Turn the octave knob clockwise, and the signal channels through two octave-up stages, slamming into each other like cosmic thunderbolts. The result? A metallic, unpredictable clang that feels like a lightning strike tearing the sky in half.
This pedal is especially versatile due to the fact that it has 3 unique modes. It practically is 3 separate effects in one box as it is naturally- mid scoop, mid boost, and clean boost modes offer entirely new universes of sound on their own. Achieve this via the mode toggle-
middle is boost- goes all the way from sparkly clean, to heavy overdrive/medium gain distortion. with the flexible tone controls you can dial in whatever frequencies you'd like to boost, effectively using this pedal as an EQ as well. In HM2 tone mode, with the boost toggle position activated, you can use any pedal before the bass fz2 to transform it into that nasty HM2 style sound- with the texture and character of your favorite drive.
up is mid scoop- makes your guitar sound like colossal waves of lighting and cosmic flares, has extremely interesting harmonic tones that evolve as the guitar signal decays.
down is mid boost - thick and crunchy, a lot more clarity and tight. in hm2 tone mode, it sounds eerily like an actual HM2
And if you dial the octave knob to its midpoint, something almost mystical happens—it feels as though the signal fractures and recombines. It’s akin to rolling back a guitar’s tone and volume knob to accentuate the octave—only stranger, deeper, and more alive.
Keep in mind- this is not your clean tracking, harmonizing octave up. It is a green ringer style octave clang/ring, that sounds more like a ring mod, and really is more of a harmonic generator.
A second footswitch toggles between two wildly different tone shaping modes. The first is a 3-band EQ, replacing the classic bass and treble controls with an added mid control. This mode opens up a whole new tonal dimension, adding high-end bite and shifting how the fuzz cuts and roars. The second mode transforms the EQ into an HM2 chainsaw voice, but with a twist—the original HM2 merged high and mid controls, but I’ve separated them here for maximum tonal flexibility, without sacrificing the chainsaw’s serrated glory. With the toggle down, you’ll discover brutal bursting metal shard HM2-style textures, seamlessly integrated with the FZ2 architecture.
And then there’s the clean blend, but not just any blend. This one’s fully featured, with a low-pass filter for the clean signal, a transparent gain control to properly match levels, and the freedom to mix crystal-clear melody with the dirtiest, gnarliest fuzz imaginable. You can place your clean tone in front of the fuzz like a beam of moonlight piercing storm clouds, or flip it around for an engulfing wall of saturated dirt.
This isn’t just practical for bass—sometimes, the FZ2’s raw, unrelenting fuzz is so colossal that melodies can get buried. The clean blend brings clarity and contrast, allowing riffs and chord progressions to shine through the chaos. There’s something beautifully jarring about hearing a clean signal juxtaposed against an apocalyptic fuzz wall—it’s like finding a delicate crystal in the middle of a volcanic eruption.
I’ve also outfitted the Bass FZ2 with silent, soft-touch footswitches, making engagement dead-smooth and clickless, perfect for recording without stray pops or unwanted mechanical noise. These switches don’t just sound better—they’re also more reliable, simple to replace if ever needed, and designed to last.
Every component in this pedal has been carefully chosen for longevity and purity including audio-grade, long-life electrolytic capacitors to ensure stable operation for as long as possible.
when you buy from Twilight Electronics, you’re not just purchasing a pedal—you’re joining a family, a cult, a movement of sonic adventurers, united by the pursuit of tone that bends reality. You’re supporting a 23-year-old dreamer, working from sunrise to the edge of sleep, pouring heart and soul into creating functional art that bridges the known and the unknown.
Your love and support keep this dream alive—and this pedal is a testament to what we can create together.
COLORS
Raw aluminum is a paintless, lightly polished raw, metal enclosure. These are built to order, and typically take about 4-7 days to get built. 2-3 weeks in rare cases where I would need to order parts.
Knobs are dealers choice as I use what is in stock

Over the past two years, I've been on a quest for a bass distortion that did NOT hinder/diminish my bass' awesome low end response, while still offering a variety of snarling, biting, and "wall of heavy" distortion sounds.
THIS IS THE ONE.
The blend control brings in ALL of my bass's low end, while still giving me a broad palette of USEFUL distortion sounds. Now that I understand the 2nd footswitch (thanks for the tips, Mr. Twilight!), I now have a couple of useful sounds at the ready.
Unexpected bonus: The gain boost mode provides an incredible hot-yet-clean tone as well!
I'm extremely happy with this pedal, and with the pre-and-post-sales support I've received from Mr. Twilight. Get one, you won't regret it!
This pedal gives you so much power, it should require a license. It's almost like a second stage booster to slingshot you past the moon and into outer space. Amazing range and tones - I'm still discovering possibilities.
Hello! This is Santiago, the guy who commissioned this pedal in the first place. I ADORE this fuzz. It's so versatile, brutal, and sits so well in a mix. The HM-2 tone stack sounds like pure chainsaw magic and the FZ-2 circuits are familiar yet refreshingly different due to the reworking of how the tone works. I also love the clean blend with LPF; it does the pillowy lows of shoegaze/blackgaze wonderfully. Once again, thank you Adrian for your hard work and for hearing out my ideas through Instagram DMs. I'll always cherish this one <3
I knew I remembered this tone from somewhere. This is the tone that used to beat me up as a kid and take my lunch money.
10/10. Would run crying to my teacher again.
